Bone marrow donor drive scheduled for Tuesday
Source: The Eagle, Bryan, TexasOct.mini storage 11--A bone marrow donor registration drive is scheduled for Tuesday in College Station. The Brazos Valley A&M Club will host the drive, called "Be The Match," from noon to 6 p.m., at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center located at 505 George Bush Drive. The club is hosting the drive to increase the chances for those in need of a transplant to find a matched donor. The club said there is currently an A&M alumni and the mother of a current student in need of transplants who are searching the registry, which is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program. The Scott & White Marrow Donor Program is a network partner of Be The Match."Seventy percent of patients in need of a transplant do not have a bone marrow match within the儲存r family," said Debbie Mabry, manager of the Scott & White Marrow Donor Program. "These individuals depend on the Be The Match registry to find a compatible match -- and a second chance at life."Organizers said joining the registry is a quick and easy process that involves the completion of a health questionnaire and a cheek swab test. Those interested should be between the ages of 18 and 44, be in good general health and be willing to consider donating marrow or blood stem cells if match is found.
