THE Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (Acra) has filed 78 charges against Data Register under the Companies Act.迷你倉Data Register, which changed its name from Company Register last month, allegedly failed to display its company name and registration number in correspondence with other firms in November last year.Acra said that it has since received more than 2,000 queries from the public about Data Register.The company sent out letters asking other companies to verify their details on its website. Some companies mistook Data Register for Acra and believed that they were obliged to provide the information.Some also received invoices seeking a $490 payment for subscription services.Acra issued two public alerts, on Nov 14 last year and Jan 16 this year, to clarify that it self storagead no links to Data Register.It also advised the public to use its online filing and information retrieval system BizFile to update any records.The case has been referred to the police's Commercial Affairs Department for further investigation.Data Register was registered in October last year. A Hungarian and a Singaporean are listed as directors and a Singaporean as secretary.A Slovakian company is listed as its sole shareholder.It is described on its website as a "public Singaporean company database" which can be used as a "business search engine" with "built-in services for verified companies".The company is due to answer the charges in court on Feb 19, said an Acra spokesman.Each breach under Section 144 of the Companies Act carries a maximum fine of $1,000.yeosamjo@sph.com.sg迷利倉
