Council plans to bury proposed noise ordinance

Source: The Montana Standard, ButteDec.迷你倉將軍澳 11--Butte-Silver Bow commissioners are bringing up a proposed noise ordinance again -- to kill it.Also Wednesday night -- in a kind of cleaning-out-the-file-cabinet fashion -- the council plans to review an old request to keep the Butte-Silver Bow website updated even though plans to do that are nearing completion. The proposed law banning excessive noise -- from blaring music to late-night hooting and hollering to habitual "meows" from cats -- was drafted a year ago to address concerns of new Uptown, upper-floor condo and apartment dwellers. But since the council recently approved an ordinance banning public drinking in the early morning hours, and hopefully the loud, rowdy behavior that went with it, an initial backer of the noise law says it's probably not needed. So the council plans to bury the idea at its meeting Wednesday night."We held off on it to see if there were other ways to look at the noise going on and we think the open-container ordinance will do about the same thing," Commissioner Dave Palmer said Tuesday. The law approved last month bans open containers of alcohol in Butte and adjacent urban areas from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. and subjects violators to fines up to $500. The ordinance takes effect Dec. 20.Council Chairwoman Cindi Shaw said the noise proposal essentially was sitting in an old file going nowhere and it was time to officially discard it.WEBSITE UPDATEThe same is being done with a formal request made of Chief Executive Matt Vincent to have the Butte-迷你倉尖沙咀ilver Bow government website updated with the meeting minutes of various boards -- or the fact they exist.Commissioner Mark Moodry made the request in a letter to Vincent and other commissioners last March."Many of our current boards do not have space on the website and several of the boards on the site have not updated their minutes or agendas in several years," Moodry wrote in that letter. "I believe this casts an appearance of unprofessionalism on our local government."He said he was formally requesting Vincent establish a protocol for posting minutes and agendas on county boards.Vincent has said his office plans to roll out a revamped website early next year with updated information and postings. The effort is being led by Justin Ringsak, who was recently hired as the county's online and public information administrator.A phone message seeking comment was left with Moodry on Tuesday.Shaw said the issue is being addressed and Ringsak planned to update the council on the project Wednesday night.Once the website is up, she said, it should include updated and pertinent information."Now there won't be any excuses," she said.Ringsak said Tuesday the revamped website should be operational by Jan. 15 and would include postings of all upcoming meetings and agendas. Some minutes of past meetings also will be posted, depending on their availability.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Montana Standard (Butte, Mont.)
