County enacts elevator policy

Source: Odessa American, TexasOct.迷你倉 22--Seven people walked out of one of the Ector County Courthouse elevators Monday morning after being stuck for a number of minutes.Now, with such problems occurring more often, the county has a policy for how to rescue people from a stalled elevator.Ector County Judge Susan Redford said after a woman got stuck in one of the elevators recently, she realized the county didn't have a protocol for when the elevators fail."We had an incident that occurred a couple of months ago where it became very clear to me that our employees were not trained on how to handle the situation," Redford said. "A lady was stuck in the elevator and it took longer than usual to be able to reactivate the elevators."The woman has filed a notice of a pending claim, which the county denied, Redford said. A lawsuit is yet to be filed.So when those seven people got stuck in the elevator and rang the bell on the metal panel, courthouse security officers notified maintenance.A maintenance employee then shut off power儲存to the elevator and was able to pry open the doors to let the people out.But Charlie Pierce, assistant maintenance director for the county, said people with enough expertise may not always be around. Instead, it could be an average county employee.And when that happens, the question becomes who is responsible for what.Pierce said this policy addresses that."It puts us on the same page," Pierce said.
