Source: Winston-Salem Journal, N.文件倉C.Aug. 14--Q: Several weeks ago, we noticed that the Winston-Salem Transit Authority has a new web page. When we went to a link that said you could get bus route schedules and maps, it simply took us to a search engine. We called to report the problem and were told it would be up in a few days. It is still not up. When can we get bus route schedules and maps?-- L.E.Answer: "I am sorry that our patrons have had difficulty in getting route/schedule information from WSTA's website, which for quite some time has been in need of a redesign or upgrade," Tina L. Carson-Wilkins, a spokeswoman for the WSTA, said in an email reply to SAM.The WSTA has spent the past few weeks working out the glitches in the redesign, Carson-Wilkins said, and she said they believe they have worked out all the problems now."The best suggestion I can offer anyone trying to access WSTA's website is to clear out their old browser history before trying to access the new site," she said. The site is at .wstransit.com . If you have further problems, Carson-Wilkins said you can call her at (336) 748-3243 and she will walk you through the process.SCAM ALERTThe Better Business Bureau of Northwest North Carolina has put out an alert about a fraudulent "mystery shopper" job offer that is using the name of Bernhardt Furniture Company in Lenoir."Individuals are receiving checks as an advance payment for the 'services' they are asked to perform," according to the report. "After these unsuspecting people deposit the check in their ac存倉ount they find out either days or weeks later that the check was not good and they are charged a returned check fee or, worse, they have spent money they never had and are now overdrawn."The instructions that accompany the checks typically direct the recipient to deposit it, spend a specific amount as a "mystery shopper," and send the rest back to an individual by Western Union or MoneyGram."Although the funds from a deposited check may be available for use within 1-5 business days of deposit, in some cases, it can take several weeks for the bank to determine that the check is counterfeit or otherwise invalid," according to the BBB report. "Instructions to draw money on checks shortly after they have been deposited may be the work of unscrupulous companies attempting to take advantage of this technicality.""If you are desperate for a job, you better understand there is a scam artist out there ready to take advantage of you," said David W. Dalrymple, President and CEO of the BBB of Northwest North Carolina. "There isn't a day that goes by that we don't get a call from at least one or two people from our community calling us in hopes we can tell them the fake check in their hand is real."WITNESS NEEDEDA witness is needed to a car accident that happened about 8:20 a.m. Monday on Business 40 near Exit 4C.
